Bright Future - Yellow Eyeshadow

Who wears yellow eyeshadow? Odds are, not many people. Whilst I wear purples and greens quite confidently, yellow can be overwhelming and scary.

My theory for wearing a scary bright colours is:

  • Stick to one bright colour - No rainbow business!
  • Tone it down with brown.

The yellow I used is Mac 'Bright Future' from the 'Style Warrior' collection, it's a veluxe pearl and has a subtle undertone of gold. I teamed it with Mac 'Bronze'. Below are some swatches...

Wearable? For me yes, I did go out in public with it. I like this look as you don't immediately see the yellow, it's only when I blink or look down, which makes it quite 'safe'.

Here is the order I did look in:

  • Nars 'Smudgeproof eyeshadow base' as primer
  • Mac 'Bright Future' e/s on eyelid.
  • Mac 'Bronze' e/s on the outer corner and blended into crease.
  • Urban Decay 'Bourbon' 24/7 pencil on upper lashline and waterline.
  • Benefit 'Eye bright' to highlight.
  • L'oreal Voluminous mascara.

With such a unique colour on my eyes, I wanted nude lips. I used YSL Rouge Volupte #2 (Sensual Silk), I think a darker brown would have looked nice too. I kept my cheeks bare with just a little bit of Chanel Bronze Universel. I did take photos of the full look but they were blurry, I am very anti blurry! :(

On another note, I removed the insert from one of my Mac palettes, and I fit 26 instead of 15 which is brilliant as I'm always trying to save space. I have also noticed this way that the colours really jump out and I can see the difference in all of them, as they are so close to each other.

Will you ever wear yellow eyeshadow? If so, how will you wear it?

I have yellows & a lot of yellow based golds and I either wear the bright ones alone & the golds with browns also.

I think it really suits you :)

You've done a lovely job of making yellow appropriate and subtle. I don't think I would ever wear it on my eyes though. I have so much yellow in my skin, that I think it would really wash me out xxx

Wow...that look is stunning!
I sometimes wear yellow eyeliner!
I do a line of purple and then on top a line of yellow. I know it sounds odd but it looks really cool!
I also do some cut crease looks with yellows and purple...more for party times and for when you are in the mood for it. XXX

I have yellow eyeshadow just like i have practically every other shade because I don't go for boring neutrals. I'd wear it however my mood strikes that day, maybe in a kaleidescope effect

Very beautiful combination, and I do wear yellow e/s, as my eyes are greenish blue and it really suit on my eyes.

I have yet to try a matte yellow though, I'll let you know how it goes ;)

And I agree with you: NO RAINBOW BUSINESS!!!

I wear matte yellow on occasion, usually something along the lines of Beyonce's makeup in the telephone video. A little bit of brown in the crease tones it down nicely, but its still a very yellow look. But I wear neons, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask!
Lovely look! How did you pop out the insert in your MAC eye shadow palette?

Very nice look! I myself have never worn yellow as an eyeshadow. But I think this color really complements your eyes---and brings out the golden flecks in them! Great look, hun =)

Looks very pretty! :) You know I love bright colors and wear them even not toned down :) But this is a great way for those who don't like it as much as I do! You did a great thing by removing the partition thing on your palette, I did it a while back and couldn't be more pleased! How many more palettes can I have?! I wish they came magnetized though! Guess I could always get a Z palette..

i bought "going bananas" from the new "dare to wear" collection and i had been wondering how to make it work. i like your take on yellow! my boyfriend, however, will look horrified when I look down and the yellow will be visible on my lid... :o))

I have Going Bananas (which is now back in the Dare to Wear collection) from the C-Shock collection that came out 3 years ago. Sometimes when I am in the mood for a great burst of color on the eyes I use it on the inner corner with a peachier color on the outer half and add some winged out black liner. I keep everything else simply and keep the "sunshine" in my eyes. Its great for those gray days too!

that shade looks pretty with your eye color. i don't think I could pull it off but I love wearing gold tones. Great idea for the palette! Did you put a magnetic strip down or glue them in?

@Tali Thanks, I would love to see how you wear yellow! x

@Schnelle Couture Mac palettes are already magnetised, I always get pan form eyeshadows which already have megnets under them, win win :) x

THAT PALETTE LOOKS GREAT.I NEVER BOUGHT IT.MUST
I actually got Bright Future somewhat recently, but haven't worn it as yet because I wasn't sure what to pair it with. Well, that and the fact that I get too many new things too often and it sometimes takes me a while to get around to trying anything. I'm completely guilty of using the same things over and over and neglecting new beauties. But that's another story.

I love how you paired it with Bronze, I will have to try that combo!

I loved your post Muhsine. Thank you. I love wearing yellow/gold on my eye lids with a deep turquoise just beneath the lower lash line - really summary and pretty esp if you team it with some turquoise earrings :) xx

Beautiful look Muhsine! :)
Very wearable look, brown is always great to tone down those bright yellows, but my peronal favourite is a darker brown/grey shade, it makes it even smokier, which I love! Give it a go and let me know what u think!
