Peanut's a soldier..

Peanut is now my little soldier, I took him to the vet yesterday for an x-ray as there seemed to be something wrong with one of his back legs when we found him.

The x-ray results came back to say that his bone wasn't fractured, but his ligaments, tendons or muscles were torn in his knee. They put his leg in a cast from his thigh to his foot in hope that it would heal as he is a puppy. I am so worried, :( they also said that if it didn't heal that they would have to amputate his leg. I can't understand why they would say that, surely there's an operation procedure to consider first. We took him to an RSPCA hospital, and I'm not liking them that much. I am also scared that the cast is too tight, I'm sure it isn't but I am just panicking. I actually shed a tear when I handed him in for x-ray, I can't believe how attached I have become. It was such a relief to have him back in my arms. He has to be in his cast for 3 weeks, and go for a check up every week, the poor thing!

His army print cast!

Snuggles!

Sniffles!

Last night it was hard for me to relax as Peanut kept chewing his cast, they should have given him a cone or something to stop him from biting it. Me and my husband went out to buy him lots of chewy toys and treats to keep him occupied, which helped a little.
I spent the night rocking him to sleep in my arms all wrapped up and slowly placing him in his bed, he woke up at 3am crying so I had to rock him to sleep in my arms again and then he fell asleep next to us, in our bed. He's such a baby!

He has been running around and jumping like normal, being a typical Jack Russell. It doesn't seem to be affecting him too much and hopefully within a few days he will be used to it.

I can't wait for him to get better!! I am so glad we kept him as I dread to think what might of happened to him.

awwww! love his lil cast! I hated the RSPCA, i will never take my cat back there again after what happened when my cat was attacked by a dog. They wanted to send me home with here even tho she had a huge gash in her back and was obviously in alot of pain and wouldnt give her any pain relief saying that she didnt need it =0/
took her to a diff vet and they gave her immediate pain relief, cleaned her wound and operated that afternoon.

Hope he gets better soon, with your love im sure we will =D
xxxxxxx
He is one ADORABLE pup

@Nooberella aww thanks hun, I can't believe the RSPCA :( I have heard a lot of bad stories about them! Not good!!! X

Ohhh the poor little mite!
Thank god he has you in his life to look after him so well.

If you can afford it I would definitely recommend seeing a private vet, the RSPCA always seem to be a bit rash in my opinion and amputation for torn ligaments sounds ridiculous to me!

Good luck and tell Peanut get well soon!

@Sydney thank you, I don't think I will be taking him to receive any treatment at the RSPCA, not liking their attitude!!

I think I've finally decided I want a dog just like this one--and I am no dog person, haha. How sweet is he! He is BEYOND adorable, and I hope he won't need surgery. I'm sure he's loving all the attention you and your hubby are giving him :)
You are a mama now to this puppy, great to see the bonding between you too. He's a lucky pup, and you're a lucky owner. All the best!

I have a jack russell terrier and they can be little monkeys at times, and little angels at other times!
I hope he recovers o.k. he looks like a little fighter!

@Jess you got it spot on, sometimes he's so naughty all hopping, biting and barking and then the next minute he wants to snuggle and and sit on your lap :) such clever and loyal dogs. :)

Oh, poor baby! I hope he will be ok.

Awwwsh how cute. I hope he gets better soon, poor little thing.
The RSPCA seem to have the wrong attitude towards this, I would take him some where else if you can.
He seems like a right little trooper :) xx

Muhsine, you and your hubby can be proud of what you do for him!
Peanut is super cute! I also have a little Jack Russel and I love her so much...
I hope he will recover very soon, take him to another vet if you can to have an other opinion.
I'm sure Peanut will find the strength to fight this thanks to his new mummy :-)
Lots of cuddles and huggies for you and him!

Awwww, your poor baby!! That cast is too cute!! I hope he heals soon, but he has such wonderful "parents" to take care of him! Rocking him to sleep, how cute is that!?

I got goosebumps reading your post, who knows what happened to the poor baby before you guys found him :( I'm so glad you did though, at least his life from now on will be full of happiness and affection. I hope he'll feel better right away, try to stay positive, he will be a perfect little puppy in no time! I love his camo cast, how cute is that! I would get another vet's opinion, some vets seriously try to rip people off because they know the owners will do anything for their pet, they are really money hungry and cruel, how sad...

Hi Muhsine :) I know you are fairly local to me and I 100% recommend the Village vet in Winchmorr Hill - that's where we take my malamute and they're great. If you want state of the art facilities/experts then I'd also recommend the Royal Veterinary College but it's in north mymms, about 20 min drive from where I am in Enfield. They have all the top facilities as they are part of a Uni aswell. We use them for my horse as he usually has more complex problems!

Heeeee peanut is sooo cute!! :) I hope the little trooper gets better. I also think amputation for a torn ligaments is absolutely absurd.

I how you feel about getting attached to them. I babysat my friends jack russell, who looked pretty similar to peanut just lighter fur coloring on the spots. Everywhere I would go, little foot steps following behind me lol I was so sad when she came to pick him up. Now I have one of my own :) they are the best!!

I hope peanut gets better soon! xo

Ooh, I totally feel yr pain and stress about this. When Moose had an operation he didn't pee for a day afterwards and I knew he needed to. It turned out he had a wee infection in his manhood and when they cleaned him out at the vet he suddenly peed about 5 liters right in the waiting room and I was so relieved I nearly cried. If Peanut is going to be left alone I would highly recommend putting a cone on him. He will be miserable for the first 30 mins while he gets used to it, but the benefit of his leg healing is much more. Dogs are known for not being great at leaving wounds alone actually. Take care of him!!!

It's amazing how quickly we fall in love with our pets, they are just a part of us. The pics you post on Twitter are so cute, you're both adorable. I hope Peanut's leg recovers well, amputation does seem like an unnecessary and extreme measure.

He's a little darling, get well soon little guy x

Aw poor Peanut! Hoping he heals quickly, but in the meantime he's got an awesome cast and awesomer humans taking care of him :)

Also, since you wrote a fair bit about Lush's hair products, I got a sample of "Big" and bought the "Jumping Juniper" solid shampoo. Tried the Big stuff, and wow, I am thoroughly impressed after one wash. Thanks for your posts and recommendations :)

Aww poor peanut! I really hope he heels fine, but if he doesn't dogs can cope perfectly happily with only 3 legs. There's a beautiful 3 legged dog in the park i take my dogs to, and i have a 3 legged cat and he's happy and fine. I'm sure he will heal up though.
I took my puppy in to be neutered this week and was so worried about leaving him all day.
He's so beautiful, i'm so glad you kept him.

Aww I can totally understand how attached you have gotten to your puppy. Mine had a broken bone on one of her back legs. She had to go for surgery (Sucks). I couldn't sleep that night since she was kept in the hospital. Keep an eye on your puppy.Tell everything you noticed good or bad. The more information you give them the more they'll understand what to do next or what to keep and eye on. Hope puppy gets better soon.XOXO
