I Heart Peanut!

Peanut is an 11 week old Jack Russell Terrior, I don't know where he was born, but I know that his previous owner had to leave him as her kids weren't getting on too well with him. I know she didn't want to but, obviously her kids are priority.
He seems to have something wrong with one of his legs, he can't put much pressure on it. I don't know how or when this happened. :(
He was given to the dog unit where my mum spotted him and they gave him to her.

When he came to me yesterday he was shivering and scared. After a bath, some food and water, much cuddles, stroking and love he felt safe and was happily roaming around.

He seems most happy in front of the TV on the sofa and is now fast asleep. I don't know how much he slept in his bed during the night, maybe he was anxious and feels more comfortable sleeping with the sound of the TV, who knows? He is very clever and knows where to poop, after a few accidents! :)

I have been researching on how to look after him and am learning along the way, I have never had a dog before so am a bit clueless, however my husband has had several so he knows exactly what he's doing.

I really want to keep him forever, but know that this kind of dog is best suited to an outdoor environment, I would never ever want to leave him alone in the house and would feel bad if I did as I live in a flat. I think the best place for him would be with the man from the dog unit as he lives in the countryside and has 12 dogs where he would be exercised regularly and be very sociable.

OMG - As I am typing this I have news that his previous owner wants him back! :( Nooo! As if I'm going to give him back to them, no way!!! I don't want him going round in circles. He deserves a happy home where he will be loved and cared for and not left in the background!

I don't think he should be allowed back with the previous owner. a dog is not something you get and get rid off whenever you feel like it. If he did it once he will do it again. Please let the people from the dog unit know how nervous and unstable the dog is due to the environment he was living at with the previous owner.

Awwww, how cute little puppy!

It's too sad you can't keep him, it wouldn't be fair to the dog but it's so fun having a little puppy playing around!

I own two dogs that I found abandoned in the neighbourhood, it's been 5 years now and the puppets have grown into loving and cuddly little dogs ;)

Thats so nice of you to show him love and care :) I hope he finds a suitable home where he can be happy!

Bless him, he is adorable. I really, really, really want a dog - but have the same living in a flat issue. Plus being out all day just wouldn't be fair on the dog so I cant.

Really hope Peanut can find a happy home where he is loved!

Peanut is sooo cute! I have had about 3 friends who have had Jack Russells(and a neighbor) and I have rescued one myself, and I can tell you that they are one of the most difficult dogs to care for, they need A LOT of space to run and dig and need a ton of attention, mine never became fully house broken and probably barked more than any dog I've owned, he chewed nearly every shoe or anything he could get to for that matter(they are bred for hunting, and they hunt something that burrows so they LOVE to dig!)...so please don't be too sad over little peanut! I agree however that he should not be given back to that owner. Dogs are not toys that you can decide to get rid of and then change your mind again, shame on that person!

Hi Muhsine,

Is it even legal for them to claim him back? Check what are your rights when it comes to that... I don't think he should be allowed back with the previous owner - they can't just shuffle him back and forth. And, anyway, if the kids didn't get along with him, what are the odds they will start to now?
Also, you mentioned problems with his leg - I'd be scared maybe he was beaten before :/

Hugs, Ola x

Almost forgot! Bischon frise, french bulldogs and maltese are perfect to have in an apartment or flat...they don't need too much exercise and like to stay cool =) I want a frenchie myself! (be sure to check rescue leagues for a specific breed)

I hope the previous owner won't take Peanut from you! He looks adorable!

I have a lil dog too, like Peanuts one of his leg has a defect but he's perfect for me. His previous owner was trying to sell him but nobody wants him coz he commands a high price so as he got a bit older the owner gave him away to us because they don't want to spend anymore for his food. Poor Brownie he came here with he was so thin his ribs poking out =( But he's a lil healthy dog now...

Don't give Peanut up when you know the owner won't take good care of such a precious lil thing!

Aww, poor poor thing... He is safe with you, I know you cannot keep him but anyway, these loving and caring days are the best you can do for him... I hope he finds a great home soon.

Awwwsh he is so adorable.
I'm not sure his previous owner would be allowed to take him back as he did abandon him. I hope you manage to find him a suitable and loving home. Such a shame that you can't keep him :(. Good luck xxx

Thanks for your comments girls :)

@Menena They don't deserve him back!!

@Aleksis Totally I read about that too. I they need to be digging a LOT, and have to run about, not the easiest to care for. Thanks for the recommendations on the other dogs, I really want one now :)

@Ola They cant have him back, I dont trust them.

@Chelle awww your poor doggy, dont worry the previous owners are clearly not capable of looking after him therefore I wont give peanut back to them.

Awwww!!! Peanut is such a cutie!
No way should he be allowed back to the previous owner, you can't pick and choose when you want the dog. Or has she got rid of the kids that were the problem in the first place?! :)
We have two staffies, soft as anything and I couldn't imagine giving them away.

I have lots of friends with jack russells who live in houses/flats and they manage fine. With two good walks a day he should be fine! I have an Alaskan malamute (sled dog that can run for hours) and she gets 2 long walks a day (longer at weekends) and manages fine! He's humping because he probably hasn't been cut yet

Poor Doggie.. i hope the owner does whats best and lets him go to a family who can care for him. Unlike her who just chucked him away!! xx

Oh my gosh Peanut is absolutely adorable. Such a sad story too :( I wish you could keep him, but completely understand your predicament as dgs needs just as much care and attention as people, and since you live in a flat and work, it's a bit awkward to say the least.

I hope the previous owner doesn't get him back. I know that sounds harsh but what's to say that they won't abandon him again? I have 2 dogs, and no matter how much they pooped or barked or anything like that, getting rid of them was never an option.

Fingers crossed he finds a home where he'll be loved and looked after soon - though something tells me someone is going to snap that little cutie up!

As for keeping a dog in a flat, I used to have a Welsh terrier - they were originally bred for fox hunting. Very similar in character to Jack Russels. It was the happiest dog on earth and we did live in a flat for the first three years that we had him, although I did have to take him for two long and one-two short walks a day. It all depends on whether you can commit to do it, and if you are - I don't see the problem in keeping him in a flat.

Aww adorable Peanut! You certainly shouldn't let the previous owner have him back, who knows they won't abandon him again? :( I've got a jack russell we rescued who was horribly treated and was terrified of everything when we first got her. Now she's a happy go lucky brave thing and just lives for her walks. I hope Peanut finds a loving home. x

Aww Peanut is so cute! You definitely shouldn't let him go back to his previous owners, they abonded him for a reason and what's to say they wouldn't do it again? It's so sad that you can't keep him though, hope he finds a suitable and happy home where he can settle down and enjoy being the cute little pup he is. x

Giving away a dog isn't a decision to be taken lightly - don't let them take him back!

Hold onto him and give him plenty of love until you can find someone with a big garden or someone who lives near the countryside.

It makes me sad when people think dogs are just toys that can be disposed of whenever they get too tough!

He's so cute! I have a Jack Russell Terrier (8 years old), and they can live in apartments, but they need attention and a good walk at least once a day. Foxy actually attended university with me daily, so I know they can be quiet and well behaved :) Jack Russell Terrier For Dummies is a great resource to find out about the breed and how to address their needs.

Dogs are like children. If you put in the effort and address their needs, they can do just about anything you ask of them. Just because they're from a certain breed doesn't mean that they'll be terrors. (Not to imply that you said anything of the sort)

As for the leg, you may want to have the vet check him for Lyme Disease. It can cause those type of symptoms, and if positive, he'll just need to be given some antibiotics for a month or so. Btw, I TOTALLY agree with Menena. You've got a good heart, and you know what to do. I hope it all works out for the little guy!

Such a cutie, easy to see why you've fallen for him. I hope if you have to rehome him, you can find him some lovely owners who let him keep his gorgeous name and who allow you to visit/ hear of how he is doing now and again.

I don't normally like dogs but he is very very cute. Hmm his owner wants him back now? For how long? What about the kids. I don't know much about dogs but I do know that they are like little children and need stability ie need to know where they belong. You seem really attached to him, can't you work something out?

What a cute dog! I really want a puppy :( but I guess I'll have to wait til I get my own house.
My auntie had a similar problem, she bought a Labrador for my cousin and she ended up giving it away cause its enviroment wasn't suitable cause she lives in a housing estate. She gave it to someone who lives in the countryside with other dogs so the dog will be much happier. Don't give the dog back to the owners!! If they weren't commuted the first time there not going to be the second!

I will update you as things become clearer. Follow me on twitter for more about peanut. BTW I named him peanut, his prev names was scrappy, he is so not a scrappy! :)

I grew up with Jack Russels. They're definitely high energy dogs. My parents still have the ones I grew up with; they are always running around the yard (and house)! LOL!

I think it's very kind of you to take care of him for now!
