Lush - Ocean Salt Review

Ocean salt is a face exfoliator which includes sea salt, grapefruit, lemon and lime juices, vodka, coconut and avocado oil. Click on the image to see the full list of ingredients. When you get the tub all the salt is at the top and needs to be mixed to form a thicker paste. It has a fresh, fruity and salty scent just like you would imagine.

It has a very abrasive texture and can actually irritate and scratch the skin. The first time I used this is stung SO bad, but after I used it a few times my skin got used to it. The stinging comes from the citric acid, vodka and salt which help kill spots in my opinion. Once your skin is clear, the stinging goes too. The way I use this is more like a face mask, if I start massaging it in, it is done VERY very slowly. I use it about once a week, or more often if I feel like I need it. Listen to your skin, it tells you when it's dry, oily or dull. Treat it accordingly.

I also like to use this on my body, it kills any itching and removes dead skin cells. It will also be a hit with men too, my husband loves it. I personally really like this, it's one of my favourite Lush products.

But, PLEASE if you are using this on your face be gentle, almost like you are caressing and loving your skin, not as if you are angry with it. :)

Have you tried this? What are your thoughts?

Price: £6.10 (120gms)

I would like to try this. Another one to add to my list. I'll have to be careful though, I always tend to use a bit too much and scrub quite vigrously. I'm not very good at that 'less is more' . . !

@Noobarella thanks, I can imagine, but using it as a face mask is ok for me as I like the ingredients and concept behind it :) X

@essjay23x get a sample first, just in case, and be VERY gentle. x

Hi Muhsine I have tried this.... But what I have found out is that for me it works best on my body rather than face as i have normal dry skin....
I apply it on all the problem areas like elbows and knee. I was actually told about this by a Lush sales staff when I complained about some acne on my chest.. After using it my acne cleared straight away..
Try this method too
Love Maria

@Maria nasim - I love it on my skin too, it's a lovely product, I think it's great to use on the body, I sometimes get teeny tiny spots and this helps clear them up. X

I LOVE this scrub!
My skin is fairly oily but I get terrible dry patches and this clears it straight up for me.
It helps that I love the smell too, and if I'm honest, I can't stop myself from tasting it a little bit too when it goes on my lips :) haha
xx

I have this on my shelf and I must try it out. I have to admit that there is no way it is going to near my face, as anything that takes that amount of work or is that high maintenance isn't going to win me over. Plus I have so many face scrubs!! I have heard a couple of people say that salt scrubs can be quite drying though. Any thoughts?
Muhsine Emin said…
@Harpreet oh no, that's not nice!!
Better stay away from this then.

@Georgina yes I love versatile products as I'm always trying to save space :)

@scarlettholly yes they can most certainly be drying if used too often and in conjuction with other drying products. I use lots of different types of skincare that do different things so it doesnt really effect me luckily. x
I love this product too!! LOL I love your reasoning to the stinging...thats what I thought too, that stinging is probably killing pimples or something. And at first I used to use it a lot and it dried out my skin, but now I listen :)

PS. totally didn't know you had to mix the salt in, I will do that now
If your using it on your face, run under warm water first to break down the course sea salt. It will feel much better on your face!

Thanks for the review, as always. It seems like an intense facial scrub! Maybe on the body would be nicer.

Hello Mushine! I have just read your comment about SebaMed Soap Cleansing Bar on my blog and I wanted to thank you first of all. Then, I wanted to say that I will check that out. Currently I am using La Roche Posay Effaclar Cleansing Gel but that Sebamed Soap is probably worth a try. Thanks again!

I was scared to get this in case it stung really badly, but I think I will try it now after your review, especially since it helps spots. Thank you!

Vodka is an interesting ingredient! I know products often contain alcohol, but to read vodka somehow seems different! Shame really, because I would otherwise try this. I might try making my own concoction with this as inspiration :) xxx

I have tried this and it is so scratchy! I love it though, the stinging makes me think its doing something for my horribly clogged pores. I will be buying it again anyway!

I love ocean salt but haven't used it for such a long time! When I used it, it never really seemed that rough, but then again that was about 4 or 5 years ago. I love the smell though - so fresh and yummy :)

i have tried the ocean salt on my face I do think it's a little to much at first but you really need to add water to it so it's not so hard on the skin, it does burn just a little but after the feeling goes away then you skin looks soo great, I also love dark angle this one is nice but has big pieces of sugar in it and i do love the feeling better cuz it doesn't burn at all and you can use all over the body too, (well I have LOL)
