DIY: Eye Make up Remover

I have blogged about olive oil and its uses in the past, but I wanted to bring this to your attention. I have spent stupid amounts of money on eye make up removers only to put chemicals in my eyes and irritate them. Some of them do work, but it's not really worth the money in my opinion.

So, make your own!

All you need is: Empty dispenser or bottle, water and olive oil.
My dispenser is from Muji.

  • Add 3/4 and 1/4 olive oil.
  • Shake before each use.
  • Apply to a cotton round and wipe away!
This formula isn't too oily, as the water does most of the work. It removes any stubborn eye make up and is gentle on the skin!

(This is not my invention. I heard about it on YT last year, and have been using it since. Sometimes I have strayed, but recently started using it again, and needed to tell you all how amazing it is.)

Try it, you have nothing to lose!

Isn't it similar to using baby oil ? I have heard some horror stories about what using oil on the eyes can do to them *cringes*

This post couldn't have come at a more perfect time as I am running out of my Boots make up remover, thanks for the idea Muhsine!

Great blog as always!
I should try the olive oil concoction! Right now I'm using Apricot Oil, Water and Cetaphil (I find having a little bit of cleanser helps dissolve my mascara) - I keep it in a small bottle and shake before using.

I like making little batches at a time - I made up a big bottle once, and started seeing white residue floating on top - eew!

@Princess sparkles this is in no way bad for your eyes. its so gentle and not oily at all. baby oil isnt a natural oil so its not the same. x

@Isamaur yes, you mix 3/4 water and 1/4 olive oil and shake before each use so that they mix together.

@QueenPenelope86 ooo good tip :)

@ellapretty eww, i think making them in smaller doses will ensure its fresh all the time. xx

I use baby oil, glycerine and rose water (Oxford Jasmine's idea) which I really love. Going to have to give this a try as well.

Thanks so much for the tip. I hate spending money on makeup remover-i'd rather spend it on the actual makeup!

I have also found that using olive oil around the eyes is a quick and inexpensive night-time eye treatment! It absorbs quickly and it softens any early signs of lines and wrinkles, and when I wake up my eye area is so soft. And not to mention my concealer goes on like a dream!

I love olive oil to remove some stubborn mascara's...works wonderfully! ;)
I use it straight from the bottle on to a piece of cotton, but I 'm sure that the diluted version would work just as nicely! Great post and btw, how cute is your dispenser??? :)

i use the same combo--although in a different bottle. i think the one that you have would be much better suited to the job though, as it can be messy!

This is a fantastic idea! I use baby oil but I suspect olive oil is much better and no chemicals.
