Lemon Juice

I just wanted to update you again with project clear skin. I am having more no makeup days and using lemon juice on my face.

Image: Taken by moi in the garden!

How have I been using lemon juice? First of all I only do this in the morning...
  • Washing my face normally with chosen cleanser (lukewarm water)
  • Pat dry
  • Squeezing lemon juice into the palm of my hand and splashing onto face
  • leave on for 5mins
  • Rinsing off with cold water.
  • Pat dry
  • Apply moisturiser *optional

Why did I start using lemon juice? My mother in law recommended I try it as this is the remedy that was passed down to her from her grandmother. She said she suffered with acne at one point in her life and that lemon juice had been her saviour and that she hasn't had to use it since.

I thought I would give it a try seen as it's an inexpensive experiment! I have been doing this for 3 days now and I can see a great difference. Once you apply the lemon juice it stings like hell, well it did on me anyway - I was flapping my hands and jumping up and down but it's worth it - it's not that bad :) don't be scared. Lemon juice contains Alpha-hydroxy Acid (AHA) which kills off dead skin cells and promotes new cell growth.

What is it good for? Acne and scarring. Apparently lemon juice is also good to lighten the skin tone?

Some people use this as a treatment overnight, this will probably be fine for people with oily skin, but my skin is dry and sensitive so 5mins every morning is enough.

What experiences have you had with lemon juice?

you know you got it bad when a random stranger on the streets stops u and says, would you like to know how to get rid of your bumps?....damn i was so embarassed, but this man actually suggested lime and honey....i don't remember what dosage but it involved rubbing the lime all over my face and leaving it on for a bit then using honey for whatever amount of time...i can't remember, but it was as a result of my lime concoctions that i started looking for more natural products.

Yeah lemon juice is well known for being good for scarring. I tried it a couple of years ago but never stuck it out.

That sounds really great, I love natural skin care, this is the most natural you can get :)xx
PS
About the honey and for example goats yogurt, can be added to some masks, natural ones to improve them, Dr Alkaitis recomend in his mask for eg.

I've heard a lot of good things about lemon juice but it's ideally a nighttime regimen. If you use it and go out in the sun, it'll lighten the skintone.

I think that sounds like something that may work.. Lemon has great healing properties and even though it burns it can soothe away problems. I hope you keep us update with how it goes..

Maybe you should try one night using a cotton bud to dab the juice on each little problem.. sleep on it and see if it works like Mario Badeshku's (cant spell) pink drying lotion! xx

There's a great face mask (a sheet soaked in a lemon toner) from the korean cosmetics, The FaceShop. It has the same idea as you've described and I think it's been very good to my skin.
I never heard of this before, but i know if you have really dry skin, you rub the the inside of a lemon directly onto the backside of your hands, it heals it. It also stings a bit, but it's worth it.

Lemon juice can lighten at least naturally blonde / light brown hair, if you go out in the sun with it.

I've noticed that the skin on my elbows is really ugly - dark and dry. I think I'll use lemon for them. You cut the lemon in half, squeeze the juice out and then just place your elbows to the leftover "cups" and let it work.

lemon juice chemically peels your skin. it is good for acne and good for scars, but it is bad for dry skin, exposure to the sun etc because your skin is actually a little bit burned on the outside and needs to recover. use lemon juice only once a week and then always, always do a mask that is extramoisturising on top.

When I was young and my blonde hair was getting darker... I grabbed some lemon juice and put it on my hair ahaha because people always said that it had a lightening effect! I would go to my backyard and stay on the sun with that ahahah it was crazy, I did it with chamomile tea too!

I've been using lemon juice for 4 months with amazing results. My grandma recommended it to me actually. It's really fading my acne scars and preventing new breakouts.

Its so true - works like a charm ;) I have scars too, Muhsine, and I'M DYINGGGG! Do you guys have a brand called "Mederma" in the UK? http://mederma.com/ This is actually used for stretch marks, surgery scars, body scars, etc... BUT if you use this on your face everyday, it completely diminishes your acne scars too. I'm buying mine today! lol.

My Mom actually uses a combination of lemon and honey with turmeric on her skin to lighten scars, she says it has worked for her but you need to be consistant. Just came across your blog and love it. I moved from the UK to the US 5 years ago. I need to make a list of makeup to buy when I visit my family in England. Lots of things we cant buy in the US yet. Skincare and makeup. Its going to be a long list....

I'll have to try this!
my tip is to wipe your face with a slice of raw potato and hour before you cleanse, I'm not sure the science behind it but it softens and sooths the skin
