When hard work pays off...

I finished the baby bedding yesterday, I'm really happy with the way it turned out and wanted to share with you what it looks like...

I have been doing lots of sewing, applique and embroidery for the past few days and I feel like it's finally paid off. I tried to keep it as simple and as fresh looking as possible with accents of feminine colour.

For those wondering I used a tiny £60 sewing machine from Argos which has been brilliant! I hand stitched the applique on to the bedding and then hand embroidered the 'cross stitch' with the brown for extra decoration and to bring it alive.

I knew I wanted a bird Incorporated in the design and here's what the little birdie looks like with it's pretty bow! :)

Here's the heart decoration I gave you a sneak peak of in a previous post...

It ties from the sides with cotton ribbon and I placed it on top of the bumper, I can move it around wherever I want in the future.

I also made an underskirt sheet to cover the bottom bit of the cot so I can use under the bed as storage but keep it looking clutter free.

I even made a rattle to match! Crazy? Me? Yes!

The white cotton fabric I used was recycled from a bed set I no longer used. The white/cream fabric I used for the rattle and main body of the bird is from the 'Cloth House' on Berwick St, London. The rest of the applique fabric is from the 'Cath Kidston' range at John Lewis and the buttons I used were from a market stall.

I'm inspired to make even more things.... Are you inspired?

Aww thank you all so much... It's nice to have other opinions! :)

@A Lauren to Herself - Kind of, but I did study fashion design for my degree and I have always been interested in nitty gritty things and have always enjoyed sewing for fun projects! :)

Muhsine,

I'm astounded by your talent...

These all look so beautiful and much better than anything bought ready-prepared.

Your little girl is going to look adorable snuggled up amongst all of the lovely things her mummy made! :0)

P.S: I'm not sure what you do for a living - and you'll be too busy with the new baby - but, in the future, I really believe you could have a career making baby items.

This is so beautiful and you have so much talent it's incredible! I did just want to say watch out for those buttons in case they fall off after a while of wear! Could be a choking hazard. Sure you know that already but thought best to say something.

i can't belive you made all that! If i saw the things you have made in a shop i would buy it all! You should have your own range in john lewis or something! The only soweing i can do is with a needle and thread and can just about stich up a hole haha I would love to be able to make the things you have for my baby! :):):)

This is gorgeous, you really have talent...did you know the baby is going to have to sleep on the end (feet touching the bottom) of the cot the first few months. So there is almost half of the cot free for some visible embroidery on the upper part of the under sheet. Just a suggestion if you're gonna make some more :)
I am really happy for u .. and u r so gud in craft work..
You will b a gr8 mommy...
Take care :)

oh...how sweet, your baby and you are going to have such a serene little place to bond. I like the stitch style you used for the applique. I'm actually working on baby bedding for a cousin, and I was stuck on what stitch to use for the applique, so you definitely inspired me.

I made bedding for my baby before she was born and I enjoyed it so much I do it for all my close family and friends who are expecting now. It's just so cute!
