What is a 'Peshtemal'?
A 'Peshtemal' is a traditional Turkish towel, used in the Turkish baths/hamams for centuries. It exists since the Ottoman Empire and was an essential for all the Sultans. It absorbs water as fast as towels yet weighs much less, it dries quickly and holds less space in your bag. The Peshtemal provides a practical, cost-effective and eco-friendly solution. It is made of %100 cotton yarn and hand woven.
It comes in many colours and sizes, you can use it like a normal beach towel and even as a cover up!

I am so intrigued by those peshtemals, I've never even heard of them, but they look gorgeous and they definitely seem very practical.
I also love the trick of putting the bottle of water in the freezer - I'm definitely going to try it the next time I'm going to the beach or just out on a hot day! :)

This looks so simple and pretty. My essentials are Super duper SPF so I don't burn like a crisp, waterproof mascara, lip balm, cool drinks and lots of books.

my beach essentials is chapstick with high spf, my lips get burnt in seconds ! don't know why is that, I'm not pale skintone... some sunglasses and that's it, I just want to have fun on the beach and not care for anything else ;) Thank you

Here is what I would carry:
Sunglasses, Good sunscreen(UVA&B), Kindle, Water, perfume, towel, Face tissue, lipbalm with SPF, ipod, a notebook and a pen for when i feel like writing...
I simply LOVE your blog. I always get super-excited when I notice that you have a new blog post.
And my beach bag essentials would be suncream, mp3 player, water, lip balm.
I do the same thing with my water bottle when I go to the beach. Works well too for when I pack a lunch, keeps my salad chilled til noon.

I don't go to the beach much, but when I do go, my beach bag essentials are sunscreen (lots and lots and LOTS of sunscreen. I burn easily), either my bikini is in there or the clothes of are in there, sunglasses, towel, my watch, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, poof, flip flops (yes, I hate them, but I need them for the shower) and my makeup bag. I don't go to the beach to read, I go to the beach to go into the water!
I always make sure to go to a beach where there are indoor showers so I can shower after (most beaches here have an outdoor shower so wetting my hair before is no problem) because I have such sensitive skin that I can't just keep lake water (there's no ocean within a 100 miles here!) on me or I'll get rashes!
I want to be a beach bum in my next life!!! :)

I would love to have this as a gift for summer ! I'm going on vacation with my family this august to Monterey beach and this will be a great accessory to carry. Gosh these are so nice!! My beach bag is much less glamorous, with just a towel, bathing suit from Sea Folly, Cinique waterproof mascara, Clinique chubby stick, Hawaiian tropics face suncream and body suncream (these smell sooo lush that applying suncream becomes a joy). Oh and definitely a book of sudoku puzzles with a pen! Rayban sunglasses and a pareo that I picked up from Camden market in London complete the look :) simples!!

Oh wow, nice! My best friend is Turkish, but she never mentioned this fabric before. True, we don't have a sea anywhere near to us here in our country, so I guess it might as well just never come up.
Btw, it might be useful to add to be careful with the amount of water you put in a bottle - when it freezes, it expands. :)

My beach bag essential is a really good sunscreen with a higher SPF with UVA/UVB protection because I am so fair and burn easily. And of course, a great pair of big sunglasses!

I love the Turkish towels, they are the only towels I use now after I bought back 6 from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul! I also bought loads of gifts for friends too, and they loved them on holiday. xxxx

I've never heard of a peshtamel before but they look so much better than a beach towel. I live in hawaii so I'm the beach a lot and that looks easier to haul around than a big beach towel!
Those Peshtemal's are absolutely gorgeous!!! I have two already and love them to bits (although my husband refuses to believe that they are towels!) I may have to invest in another one though because the colours are fab! Im thinking grey and white or even yellow! Hmm! xx

Brilliant, love the pictures. I pack very similar items in my beach bag, including an extra waterproof bag like the H & M one to keep my ipod and phone in. And also a chilled Avene water mist spray which cools your face when it gets a little warm!
